For around eight years now I have had a personal vision of bringing light therapy to the public arena to help raise awareness of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and Winter Blues and to de-mystify light therapy. I wanted to make it informative, relaxing, social and fun. So I combined my love of tea, cake, crafting and socialising to create an event that would feel like a treat for everyone attending.
Finally, I piloted the Little Light Room event at Kuppa Coffee in Newcastle this morning with a group of friends to test the format of the event before I go on to advertise it more widely.
I am delighted with how the event went. We don’t often take time to relax and switch off from the stresses of everyday demands and we were reluctant for the session to finish! Here’s what the guests said:
“Lovely relaxed atmosphere. I found the talk about SAD very interesting and informative.”
“It has been great for finding quality time while around others – I absolutely loved this!”
“Really great event – fun and engaging… would happily make this a regular occurrence in my diary!”
“Nice atmosphere with opportunity to chat and do activities, good to have a small group as nice and personal.”
Thank you (Oscar style, of course!):
I’m extremely grateful to Lumie for their encouragement, kindly loaning me the light boxes and offering my attendees a special discount. Also to Kuppa Coffee in Newcastle upon Tyne for providing their space, Graham Baty at Northumbria University’s Enterprise service for his advice and Alice Allum of IX7 for her coaching. Last but not least my lovely friends and family for being so supportive and making this first event such a pleasure.
Watch this space!
